State Rep. Donni Steele, representing Orion Township, expressed her delight in presenting a tribute to the City of Auburn Hills as it celebrated its 40th anniversary on December 31, 2023. Auburn Hills, formed in 1983 through the merger of Pontiac Township and Auburn Heights, holds a special place in Michigan's history and contributes significantly to the state.
In recognition of this milestone, Rep. Steele remarked, "The City of Auburn Hills is an indispensable community that contributes so much to Michigan. It's a great honor to celebrate this special milestone with the people of Auburn Hills."
The name "Auburn Hills" was initially adopted by Oakland Community College in 1964, and to this day, the institution remains an integral part of the Auburn Hills community. In the 1980s, Auburn Hills forged a partnership with Oakland University, leading to the development of the Oakland Technology Park. Over the years, this park has flourished, accommodating prominent businesses such as Comerica, EDS, and Chrysler, and transforming into expansive campuses.
As Auburn Hills commemorates its 40th anniversary, the city stands as a testament to the growth and progress it has achieved over the years. With its rich history, thriving educational institutions, and thriving business sector, Auburn Hills continues to play a vital role in the state of Michigan.
